Vision Centre

I have been a patient of Dr Roger Welch of the Vision Centre for about 7 or 8 years.

Now 63, and thanks to Dr Roger Welch, I am happier with my eyesight than I have ever been since the age of 40; when I first started wearing glasses. It is lovely to be able to get out of bed in the morning and not have to reach for my spectacles. In fact, I feel as if I have 20 year old eyes! An added bonus is that over time I will save money too.

Dr Roger Welch has done a fantastic job of inserting bifocal lenses into my eyes. His professionalism, care and concern is beyond comparison. As a result I no longer require glasses.

My last set of glasses cost $1200 - besides the lenses changing color when sunny and the spectacles being equippped with other enhancements, I bought a good quality and fashionable frame; hence the cost. Because I no longer need them, I will save money by not having to upgrade periodically.

To use an old cliche; my 'new eyes' are better than sliced bread! I am eternally grateful to Dr Welch.

Around 20 years ago I arrived on the Gold Coast after migrating from Sydney and I arrived with a terrible eye infection caused from extended wear contact lenses. I had been referred to Doctor Welch by The Sydney Eye Hospital who assured me that he was the ‘best’ on the Coast. Well all I can say is Sydney Eye Hospital certainly got it right! 

The twenty years have passed and I found myself needing an eye specialist again with a family history of glaucoma and cataracts, I decided to return to the ‘best’ on the Coast and found through my experience of late that the ‘best’ got better! My experience with the Vision Centre and Doctor Welch over the past 2 months have been amazing and the results are nothing but superior. This can be fully accredited to a Doctor and a team who are truly passionate, professional and extremely dedicated to obtaining the best outcome for an individual patient. 

I simply went for a check-up based on my families genetics and had pre-empted enquiring about correction laser surgery as I had worn contact lenses and glasses for 37 years. My initial consultation was extremely thorough and no stone was left unturned to ensure that any conditions of the eye were not missed or undetected. It was discovered that I not only had cataracts on each eye but also a tear in the retina on one eye. I was fairly horrified at the age of 57 that my eyes were in this state but was very quickly put at ease that things could be done to rectify these conditions. 

Doctor Welch acted fast and moved his extremely busy schedule to slot me in for firstly laser repair to the tear and in fact this was all actioned within 5 days of diagnosis thus alleviating my fears, concerns and anxiety. Soon after the laser work healed I had cataract surgery where I had them removed and at the same time lenses inserted into my eyes to correct my vision. The incredible result after having had deteriorating vision for 37 years is I now have 20 20 vision! I can read the newspaper, work on a computer for an 8 hour day, see the clock and the TV and drive my car ALL without glasses! The thing that stands out most to me was that Doctor Welch always stated he could not guarantee any specific result but vowed to do his best with the situation at hand and he continued to explain and inform giving me immense confidence during the process, something we all need when facing issues with our very important eyes.  

The entire experience from the greeting at the front desk, right through to tests with technicians, consultations with Doctor Welch and the experience in the wonderful Day Surgery Centre has been one of true professionalism where the patient’s needs are treated as paramount. It is fair to say that I am one happy customer and will always recommend this team of experts based on my personal and successful experience. In closing, thankyou Doctor Welch and team and congratulations on the operation of running a highly professional establishment.
