I have been a patient of Dr Roger Welch of the Vision Centre for about 7 or 8 years.
Now 63, and thanks to Dr Roger Welch, I am happier with my eyesight than I have ever been since
the age of 40; when I first started wearing glasses. It is lovely to be able to get out of bed in
the morning and not have to reach for my spectacles. In fact, I feel as if I have 20 year old eyes!
An added bonus is that over time I will save money too.
Dr Roger Welch has done a fantastic job of inserting bifocal lenses into my eyes. His
professionalism, care and concern is beyond comparison. As a result I no longer require
glasses.
My last set of glasses cost $1200 - besides the lenses changing color when sunny and the
spectacles being equippped with other enhancements, I bought a good quality and fashionable frame;
hence the cost. Because I no longer need them, I will save money by not having to upgrade
periodically.
To use an old cliche; my 'new eyes' are better than sliced bread! I am eternally grateful to Dr
Welch.

My eyesight had been worsening over the past decade without me really noticing, as everything in vision
slowly became blurred I must have just accepted that what I saw was what it was.
I think in mid to late 2009 I finally realised that something was fundamentally wrong with my eyesight,
when I found myself struggling to work out if the traffic lights 40 meters away were red or green .
In Nov 2009 I was referred to Dr Andre Theron , at that first consultation while Andre was examining my
eyes he asked me “ when did you stop driving “ I looked at him and replied “ I drove here doctor ! I
still drive every day “ . He said “ you have done well to function at all with those eyes”.
Honestly , at this point my eyesight was completely beyond a joke , I would have been classed as
legally blind.
On the 11th Feb 2010 after a few more visits with Dr Andre Theron I underwent surgery to correct my
left eye, I found all your staff completely professional and absolutely without fault.
I slept through the entire operation ( as I was tired and really appreciated a good nap ). I don’t
recall being driven home or much of the remainder of the day.
On Friday the 12th Feb 2010 I sat in your waiting room , waiting to see Andre, I peeled back the corner
of the bandage over my left (new) eye, what I saw with was crystal clear 100% perfect vision.
Honestly ! I was so excited that I broke into a sweat ! , I was fighting back tears of absolute joy , I
didn’t want to make a fool of myself in a crowded waiting room , I was scared of damaging my eye.
That first glimpse I will never forget. I was amazed to be able to read the smallest line on your eye
chart from a room away !.
The following days I have spent looking at everything , to see that trees have individual leaves again,
I can see cars on both sides of the road now, I have not been this happy in 20 years .
Mind you , I did look in the mirror the other day and think to myself “ where did all those wrinkles
come from “ .
