Centre Day Surgery acheives four year ACHS
Accreditation The medical link, Gold Coast Medical
Asociation, July 2002
The Vision Centre Day Surgery in Southport has
continued to forge ahead by achieving a high level of
accreditation in its first 18 months of operation.
The day care surgery has achieved a four-year accreditation
from the Australian Council of Health Care Standards.
Ophthalmologist and Vision Centre
proprietor; Dr Roger Welch, says the standard ensures the day
surgery will continue to raise the bar with innovative
ophthalmic techniques In a region where the demand for
specialised eye care has never been higher. 'We are delighted
to receive this standard of accreditation for four years
following a great deal of hard work by our dedicated team over
the past 15 months," said Dr Welch. "We have worked to not only
to meet, but also to exceed, the specific requirements of the
ACHS and the accreditation for four years reflects these
efforts."
The health care standard, which is in
addition to the Vision Centre Day Surgery's Queensland Health
Department license, also satisfies the requirements of private
health insurers. Accreditation involved rigorous evaluation of
every aspect of the facility including management practices,
the standard of equipment and technical services, information
technology, continuum of care, safety practices and human
resources. "While other accreditation programs were available,
we felt the ACHS the most appropriate because it is the most
comprehensive," said Dr Welch. "The Vision Centre is a highly
specialised operation compared to similar surgeries around
Australia but is required to meet the same standards and
prepare the same documentation as other hospitals."
The Vision Centre Day Surgery, at 95 Nerang
Street, is the Gold Coast's only day surgery specialising in
eye operations including cataract- lens implants, eyelid
surgery, refractive excimer laser treatment and paediatric eye
surgery. "The combination of an ageing population on the Gold
Coast as well as a large population of young families moving to
the region has seen the need for a centre like this," said Dr
Welch. "We are meeting that need and we've made a concerted
effort to not only comply with the standards but to create a
benchmark in eye care surgery standards."
