Your Questions

The Most Common Ones

Can I park my car?

The Southport practice has secure, underground carparking available for all patients free of charge. You will need to bring your carpark ticket to the reception desk for our friendly staff to validate with a stamp. Whilst our underground car park is easy to navigate, if you are not confident leaving the underground parking, a friendly parking attendant can assist you by driving your car out to the ground level for you.

The Robina practice has free undercover car parking available off Laver Drive with lifts from the carpark to all levels.

Will there be a cost for my visit?

There is a fee payable on the day for each consultation. We are happy to provide a written quotation for any procedure if required. Costs are normally claimable from Medicare. Costs are variable, depending on the situation and the number of consultations and examinations a patient requires.

How long will my appointment take?

First visits usually take a little longer due to the procedures and diagnostic tests involved. There are a number of things which need to be done prior to your seeing your doctor for the first time.

Your time spent at Vision Centre includes not only the consultation processs but also involves front desk administration, then an interview with the doctor's assistant before finally seeing the doctor.

Patients are always seen in accordance with a schedule based on the appointment times given to patients, so early arrival will usually not mean your appointment will happen ahead of the scheduled time.

What will my first visit involve?

On your first visit the doctor will usually want your eyes to be dilated. This will mean that eye drops are instilled and you will have to wait around 20-30 minutes before your eyes are dilated, ready for the the doctor's examination of the retina of your eye. The eye drops also facilitate measuring the pressure of the eye. You may require additional tests as well.

Expect to be at the Vision Centre Gold Coast for around 1-2 hours. It is also advisable for you to bring a driver with you for this appointment as you may find that your eyes are blurry from the dilation drops. We actively encourage all of our patients to bring a friend or family member with them when they visit us.

If you do not speak English we suggest that you bring an interpreter with you. Our doctors are, however, capable in French, Spanish, and Afrikaans.

Is there wheelchair access?

Vision Centre Southport has a wheelchair ramp for street access to the building and disabled parking available next to lifts from all levels of the carpark.

Vision Centre Robina practice has free under cover car parking and lifts from the carpark to all levels.

Can I claim on my private health fund?

Only services provided as an in-patient in the Vision Centre Day Surgery can be claimed through your health fund. Consultation and other procedures classified as out-patient services cannot be claimed through your health fund. Those items can only be claimed through Medicare.

What do I need to bring to my visit?

A referral is required from your optometrist or general practitioner for your appointment with a specialist ophthalmologist. The referral enables you to claim a rebate from Medicare on your consultation fee. Please also remember to bring all glasses that you wear, a list of any and all prescription medication you take, any eye drops or eye ointment that you are using, and any x-rays or scan results that are relevant.

Do you need my Medical History?

Yes we do, and prior to any surgery. Download the Pre-Anaesthetic Questions form, have that form completed, then return it to Vision Centre prior to your procedure.

Patient Paperwork

Can I pay over the phone by credit card?

Vision Centre requires that full payment be made at the conclusion of each consultation. That payment may be by credit card, and by either the patient or their carer, but needs to be made in person.

Full payment is required before your procedure if a visit to our Day Surgery is required. It may be made by credit card but Day Surgery patients or their carers should phone Vision Centre Day Surgery at (07) 5528 4020 to speak with one of our friendly, helpful staff regarding over-the-phone payment.

Please Note: Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding with such a procedure you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
